PoE Legion farming starts cheaply with five basic Legion Scarabs and scales into a Treasures and Eternal Conflict setup when your build and budget can support tougher repeat fights. Farming remains the direct route to POE currency, while buying currency is an alternative for players preparing their maps.
Choose a scarab setup that fits your budget
Use the same Legion-focused Atlas tree across the ladder and change the map device inputs as your returns improve. The jump to the top setup is substantial: repeated reward kills can increase returns, but scarab costs and monster toughness rise with it.
Step Map inputs Best use
1 Five Legion Scarabs Low-cost starting point
2 Four Legion Scarabs and one Legion Scarab of Officers More Sergeants per faction
3 Step 2 inputs and a Timeless Astrolabe An extra Legion and Generals on both sides
4 Three Legion Scarabs, one Officers scarab, an unspecified fourth scarab and a Timeless Astrolabe Intermediate upgrade with an uncertain scarab choice
5 One Legion Scarab, three Legion Scarabs of Treasures, one Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict and a Timeless Astrolabe High-investment repeat kills
The Legion Scarab of Officers adds five Sergeants to each Legion faction and is limited to one per map. A Timeless Astrolabe adds another Legion and makes Generals appear on both sides, increasing the number of valuable targets.
Step 4 has an unspecified scarab in the available setup, so do not buy a particular fifth scarab assuming it completes a confirmed recipe. Move from Step 3 to Step 5 only when the full cost and your clear speed make that jump reasonable.
Make Treasures and Eternal Conflict work together
Three Treasures scarabs give a 60% chance for a Legion chest’s rewards to spread onto nearby monsters. Eternal Conflict lets you release the formation again after killing it, creating another round of reward kills as the monsters become tougher.
This interaction is the reason to reserve the expensive setup for a build that can clear quickly and survive repeat rounds. Officers is cheaper and useful earlier, but it gives way to Eternal Conflict in the top setup.
Take Pillaged Treasures and Logistical Support on the Atlas tree. Pillaged Treasures adds a random reward to Legion chests, while Logistical Support adds reward chances to monsters that already carry one. The top setup can skip General-focused nodes because the Astrolabe already guarantees Generals.
Run open maps and check the actual return
Dunes gives Legion formations room to spread out; Jungle Valley is the main alternative. Ordinary eight-mod Tier 16 maps suit the high-investment setup, while Delirium Orbs are optional rather than a requirement.
Open the map device and place the map and the scarabs for your chosen step. For Steps 3 and 5, include a Timeless Astrolabe on the map.
Clear the map and look for an Eater of Worlds altar offering currency or scarab duplication before opening Legion encounters.
Activate a Legion and break out as much of the formation as possible. Reaching 90% automatically frees the remaining monsters, chests, Sergeants and Generals.
Kill the released monsters and both Generals. With Eternal Conflict, release the formation again for each additional round your build can survive.
Collect the rewards and record their sale value alongside the cost of the map inputs.
The automatic release at 90% is your confirmation that the rest of the formation has been freed; do not waste time chasing every frozen target once it triggers. Stop repeat rounds if the added toughness slows your clear or puts the map at risk.
Before upgrading, open the Currency Exchange and price the entire set of inputs in Chaos. Compare the extra cost with the average value from your last ten maps at the current step. Eternal Conflict and the Timeless Astrolabe can change in price, so an upgrade that worked previously may no longer cover its added cost.
Sell the loot without relying on outdated rewards
Ordinary Legion monsters no longer drop Timeless Splinters. Generals drop more on average, while Sergeants and chests drop them less often but in larger stacks; map item quantity now has less influence on Sergeant and chest splinter chances.
Combine 100 matching splinters into an Emblem before treating them as a finished sale item. Maraketh and Templar Emblems are the valuable armies highlighted for this setup. Generals in maps can also drop Enshrouding Crystals, but those crystals do not drop inside the Domain of Timeless Conflict.
Incubators and the Timeless Delirium Orb no longer drop, so leave them out of any return estimate. Raw Divine Orbs, Stacked Decks, scarabs and support gems such as Enlighten and Empower are among the rewards to track; sell suitable items through the Currency Exchange or in bulk.
For your next batch, price the full map device in the Currency Exchange and run ten maps at the highest step your build clears comfortably. If you are considering cheap Path of exile currency as an alternative to funding the setup through farming, compare that option with your recorded map costs before committing to more expensive inputs.
