The Madden NFL 23 owners voted on Wednesday to extend the team’s International Series through the 2025 season. In addition, they gave the Madden NFL 23 the right to organize games outside of the United Kingdom starting in 2016. One venue that is expected to host the next games could be Mexico City.
“This represents a major step in our long-term international growth,” Madden NFL 23 commissioner Roger Goodell said. “Fans from the UK have responded extremely well for the regular season matches that we had played at London since 2007. They have demanded the addition of Madden NFL 23 games, and we’ve been able to accommodate their requests. It’s now time to extend our International Series to other countries as well as respond to the increasing enthusiasm for our game, not just in the UK, but elsewhere around the world.”
Although Mexico City hasn’t yet been selected as a venue yet, it appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers are close to finalizing a deal to play a game in Mexico, according to AS.com. The Steelers played on the field at Wembley Stadium in 2013 and the owner Dan Rooney, the former United States ambassador to Ireland is pushing for an International Series.
In 2005. the first regular season game played outside from the United States was played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City between the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers. A year later, Madden NFL 23 launched officially launched the International Series with games annually played at Wembley Stadium in London.
