The Cabochon Merchant can make a Kurast Undercity run feel worthwhile even when the usual drops aren’t what you’re after. Once the vendor appears, you can spend Gold on Runes, Gems, and Seals rather than waiting for each item to drop. A Ber Rune might turn up, though the selection varies, so don’t count on finding a particular item every visit. Players weighing their options for D4 items should still check the merchant’s stock before spending elsewhere. It’s a useful stop for anyone working on a build or saving materials for a Runeword.
Set Up the Run
There’s a step to take before entering the Undercity: activate the Bauble Day modifier in the dungeon upgrades. Without it, you’re not setting up the encounter described here. Once that’s done, head into the timed dungeon ready to move quickly. The Vessel of Hatred activity asks you to fight through multiple stages while keeping an eye on the clock, and it’s easy to get distracted by ordinary enemies. Clear what you need to keep the run moving, but leave yourself enough time to investigate the district. You don’t want to spot your target just as the timer is about to expire.
Catch the Portal Prankster
The target is a treasure goblin called the Portal Prankster. It uses portals to escape, so a slow pursuit can cost you the encounter. Watch the minimap as you explore, and switch your attention to the goblin as soon as you find it. Movement skills help close the distance, while a strong burst of damage gives it less time to slip away. Save a useful cooldown if you think you’re close. If the Prankster escapes, the merchant won’t appear on that run. If you defeat it, keep going and take down the District Boss; the merchant should then appear near the reward chests.
Compare Your Options
Take a moment to look through the inventory before buying. Runes are useful for Runewords, while Grand and Royal Gems can help improve your character’s stats. Legendary Seals may also be worth a look, depending on what you’re missing. The first inventory refresh is free, so use it if nothing catches your eye. Later refreshes cost 666 Forgotten Souls each. That’s a different decision: those materials have crafting uses too, and a fresh selection still might not contain the item you want. Bring plenty of Gold, decide how many Souls you’re willing to spend, and don’t let a disappointing first shop push you into draining your reserves.
Make Each Visit Count
A little preparation goes a long way here. Pick a build that can move comfortably, know which Runes or Gems you’d actually use, and check your crafting supplies before you enter. U4GM offers a convenient platform for purchasing game currency and items, and you can browse u4gm D4 items if you’re looking for another way to support your build. In the dungeon itself, though, the priorities stay simple: activate Bauble Day, catch the Prankster, beat the boss, and inspect the shop before deciding whether a refresh is worth the cost.
