When you first run into The Prisoner in Act 4, it can feel like hitting a brick wall. He’s big, hits like a truck, and punishes you hard if you just stand there trading blows. The fight’s really about learning how he moves and making the most of his slow wind-ups. Right away you’ll notice his overhead slam – weapon goes up, you roll sideways or slip behind him. That’s your cue for a couple of quick strikes before you back off. He’s also got a ground stomp that sends out a shockwave. You can dodge through it if your timing’s sharp, or simply get out of range. Patience is key here. Two safe hits and repositioning beats going for three and ending up face-down. Once you’ve chipped him down to about half health, things change fast. You’ll need to stay on your toes and avoid standing in any of that dangerous terrain.
The scariest new trick in this phase is his charge. You’ll see him hunch down and start glowing – that’s your warning. Get clear, because he’s about to tear across the arena. If you’re in his path, you’ll take massive damage. Rolling at the right moment or using terrain to block him can save your life. This is where knowing the layout of the arena helps. You can kite him around hazards so he has to take longer routes, giving you breathing room to heal or reload flasks.
In phase two, your mindset has to shift. You’re no longer looking for big damage bursts – you’re playing for survival and picking at him when you can. The fight becomes a rhythm: dodge, reposition, quick hit, repeat. Don’t panic if you miss an opening; it’s better to wait than to eat a hit that could end the run. Keep him moving, make him waste his attacks, and chip away until he drops.
