Heartseeker is a new and highly flexible skill introduced in Last Epoch’s Season 2 update, designed exclusively for the Rogue Marksman mastery. It fills a unique niche by delivering high single-target damage through a ranged projectile that can “recurve” – repeatedly striking the same target multiple times, making it effective for both hit-based and damage-over-time (DoT) builds Last Epoch Gold.
Heartseeker’s defining feature is its innovative Recurve Chance mechanic. When fired, the arrow hits a target and has a chance to continue through it, striking again. This chance starts at 100% for the first recurve and decreases by 20% after each subsequent hit (multiplied by 0.8). For example, the first recurve is guaranteed, the second has an 80% chance, the third 64%, and so on, until it fails to recurve. Increasing the Recurve Chance stat raises the minimum guaranteed recurve hits, allowing for multiple successive strikes on a single target. At higher levels, the skill can theoretically recurve indefinitely until no targets remain.
Heartseeker features a deep skill tree allowing players to tailor its behavior and damage type extensively:
1. Recurve Focus: Nodes like Shadow Weaver’s Grasp ensure the recurve chance never drops below 66%, maximizing repeated hits.
2. Damage Conversion: The skill can convert from physical damage to fire or cold, unlocking specialized nodes like Dragonfang (fire damage stacking buff) or Frozen Splinter (cold penetration scaling with resistance overcap).
3. Targeting Behavior: The Exposed node restricts recurve hits to the same target, making it ideal for ranged assassination, while Straight Through allows leftover recurve hits to spread as punctures to nearby enemies.
4. Support and Sustain: Nodes like Heartdrain enable the skill to generate mana and health, turning it into a sustain tool.
5. Throwing Attack Conversion: A unique item, Ravager’s Dart, changes Heartseeker from a bow attack to a throwing attack, adding new playstyle options at the cost of limiting active projectiles.
Heartseeker’s combination of repeated hits, damage conversion, and utility makes it highly adaptable. It excels at taking down high-health single targets but can also spread damage to multiple enemies through puncture mechanics.
