Among the many epic-tier weapons available, the Stormfang Lance has emerged as a particularly potent choice for warriors who thrive on aggression, mobility, and WAA Solarbite. This epic weapon is notable not just for its raw damage, but for the nuanced tactical advantages it provides through its signature Skill 3: Surging Throw.
In this article, we will explore the mechanics of the Stormfang Lance, analyze its impact on combat and battlefield dynamics, and offer strategies for players seeking to optimize its use in both PvE and PvP scenarios. From skill synergies to positioning, this guide will provide a deep dive into why Stormfang Lance is quickly becoming a favorite among high-level Warborne players.
Understanding the Stormfang Lance: Epic Weapon Mechanics
The Stormfang Lance is classified as an Epic-tier weapon, meaning that it is among the more powerful and rarest items in the game. Epic weapons not only provide higher base stats compared to their rare or common counterparts but often come with unique skills that can change the tide of battle.
The key feature of the Stormfang Lance is its third skill, Surging Throw. This skill embodies both the offensive and tactical versatility that makes the weapon a standout:
Charge Attack: The wielder charges at a target enemy, dealing 150% Physical Damage and inflicting a stun for 1 second.
Throw Mechanic: After the charge, the target is thrown backward, landing in an area where they take an additional 200% Physical Damage and suffer -30% Movement Speed for 3 seconds.
This combination of damage, crowd control, and debilitation makes Surging Throw a skill that rewards careful timing, positioning, and battlefield awareness.
Breaking Down Surging Throw: Tactical Analysis
To appreciate the potency of the Stormfang Lance, we must analyze each component of Surging Throw and how it interacts with the dynamics of Warborne combat.
1. Charge Damage and Stun
The initial charge deals 150% Physical Damage, a significant amount for a single-target attack. More importantly, the 1-second stun can disrupt enemy formations, prevent powerful enemy abilities, or interrupt channeling spells. In PvP, this stun window is often enough to give your allies the opportunity to follow up with high-damage abilities, creating devastating combos.
Timing is everything with this charge. Players must predict enemy movement and anticipate their reactions. Misjudging a charge can leave the player exposed or push the target into a less favorable position. Skilled Stormfang Lance users often use this initial charge not just as an attack, but as a tactical tool to control enemy positioning on the battlefield.
2. Throw and Area Damage
Once the charge connects, the target is thrown backward. Upon landing, they take 200% Physical Damage in the impact area and suffer a -30% movement speed debuff for 3 seconds. This secondary effect transforms Surging Throw from a simple single-target skill into an area-denial tool. Players can strategically throw enemies into hazards, group them with other foes, or prevent them from escaping key objectives.
The combination of stun and movement debuff also creates opportunities for follow-up attacks. For example, melee allies can capitalize on slowed enemies, while ranged allies can safely land damage from a distance. For solo players, chaining the stun, throw, and attack rotations can result in near-continuous pressure on a single target.
3. Crowd Control Potential
Surging Throw is a rare example of a skill that blends direct damage with crowd control (CC). The initial stun interrupts, the throw repositions enemies, and the landing slows them down. In PvP scenarios, this triple-threat effect can control the flow of combat, dictating enemy movement and engagement windows. Even in PvE, where AI patterns are often predictable, using Surging Throw strategically can reduce incoming damage and isolate dangerous units.
Integrating Stormfang Lance into Builds
Optimizing the Stormfang Lance requires more than understanding the skill—it demands integrating it into a cohesive build that maximizes its effectiveness. Below are several approaches to weapon synergy and character optimization.
1. Aggressive Frontliner Builds
Given its charge-and-stun mechanics, the Stormfang Lance excels in frontline engagements. Warriors who focus on high physical damage and survivability benefit most from this weapon. Recommended stat priorities include:
Strength: Boosts physical damage and amplifies Surging Throw’s output.
Endurance: Increases health and allows repeated charges without being easily interrupted.
Agility: Enhances movement speed for positioning and disengaging after a charge.
For skills, pairing Surging Throw with defensive abilities such as shields or temporary invulnerability can help frontline warriors survive after initiating a charge, keeping the pressure on enemy lines.
2. Combo-Oriented Teams
In team-based PvP, Stormfang Lance users can function as disruptors, enabling allies to exploit the chaos created by Surging Throw. For instance, combining the Lance with characters who have area-of-effect (AoE) spells can turn a single-target throw into multi-target damage. Strategies include:
Initiate: Charge and stun the enemy, throwing them into an AoE zone.
Follow-Up: Allies deploy high-damage AoE skills on clustered enemies.
Control: Maintain pressure with slowed targets, forcing enemies into defensive positions.
Team composition is crucial. The Lance works best when allies are ready to capitalize on the temporary CC it creates.
3. Solo PvE Efficiency
In PvE environments, players may face tightly packed mobs or high-priority targets such as mini-bosses. The movement debuff from Surging Throw can mitigate incoming damage, allowing solo players to kite larger groups effectively. Combining the Stormfang Lance with healing or mobility skills can make for a highly self-sufficient, damage-focused solo build.
PvP Considerations: Stormfang Lance as a Battlefield Game-Changer
Player-versus-player scenarios in Warborne: Above Ashes demand precision, awareness, and adaptability. The Stormfang Lance’s Surging Throw skill directly addresses these needs through disruption, damage, and control.
1. Initiation and Engagement
A well-timed Surging Throw can turn the tide of a duel. By stunning and repositioning an enemy, the Lance user dictates the pace of the fight. Smart players use terrain to their advantage, throwing enemies into walls, cliffs, or hazards to maximize damage output.
2. Countering Enemy Builds
Enemies reliant on mobility or casting are particularly vulnerable. A single well-placed Surging Throw can interrupt channeling spells, halt an enemy escape, or force squishy characters into danger. The slow effect further compounds this advantage, preventing retreat or repositioning for a few crucial seconds.
3. Risk vs Reward
While powerful, the Stormfang Lance is not without risks. Charging into a group without proper support can leave the user exposed. Anticipating enemy counterplay, such as ranged attacks or stuns, is critical. High-level PvP players often combine Surging Throw with baiting tactics, drawing enemies into overcommitment before punishing them with the skill’s displacement effect.
Synergy with Other Epic Weapons and Skills
The Stormfang Lance shines even brighter when paired with other epic-tier equipment and complementary skills. For example:
Armor Enhancements: Boosting survivability allows repeated charges without significant risk.
Debuff Amplifiers: Skills or items that extend the duration of slows, stuns, or debuffs can turn Surging Throw into an even more oppressive tool.
Team Buffs: Coordination with allies who provide damage amplification or defensive shields enhances the Lance’s effectiveness in both PvE and PvP scenarios.
Understanding how the Lance fits into the broader ecosystem of Warborne gear ensures that players can build around its strengths, creating synergy that exceeds the sum of its parts.
Advanced Tips for Mastering Stormfang Lance
Predict Movement: Success with Surging Throw depends on anticipating enemy movement. Watch for common dodging patterns and use the initial charge to control positioning.
Use Terrain to Advantage: Throwing enemies into walls or hazards increases effective damage and disruption.
Chain Skills for Maximum Pressure: Combine the stun and slow with follow-up attacks to maintain relentless pressure on your target.
Timing is Everything in PvP: A mistimed charge can backfire. Wait for the right moment, especially against highly mobile or crowd-control-heavy opponents.
Adapt Your Build: Prioritize stats and gear that complement repeated charges, survivability, and mobility.
