Yeah. The feeling was, that micro-holidays are truthfully they’re a term that it was invented recenty, and so the definition of what they mean remains a matter of debate. To date, they’ve only been just one or three days long in addition, the Trial of Style felt like an event with enough significance that you would not want to miss it, and it’s slightly more likely to be missed even with three days. Therefore, we extended it out to five days . And, as a result, decided, “Well, let’s not define this as a “micro-holiday. Instead, we’ll label it as the event.” It also opens us up to be able to release it at a different cadence should we decide to do so later depending on how it feels after players have started playing it.
More broadly, it seems like new technology is a constant accent throughout the expansion. Is that something you would consider to be being a constant focus in the coming years?
I’m convinced. This isn’t just a Legion thing. Maybe we’ve done more of it in Legion however since the start of WoW we’ve always added tech to the game. We didn’t have the capacity to create a daily quest until BC was released which is when we realized we wanted tech for this. Our water was not looking nice for a while, and then all of a sudden, it started looking pretty attractive. There’s always tech being introduced.
Legion is no exception. Everything from simple to complex, as in the Chromie situation, we needed bits of tech just to help make an Order Hall talent tree work on Chromie in the sense that Chromie was not an entire class, but rather a character. Just getting the 1’s and zero’s to work behind-the- layers to do that were tiny bits of technology that combine here and there, that makes it easier for people like myself and other designers in the game to really make the kinds of experiences we’d like to make.
